Paper Moon Repertory: Theatre for Austin

Alright, so maybe it’s not a good idea for an actor to send a right hook to a director’s mug, but perhaps this is your chance to let a director sock you for not being off book on time or taking liberties with blocking. We’ve got some celebs in the ring for this special event, or you can duke it out with buddies and/or visiting relatives who just won’t realize Thanksgiving is over.

We’re grateful to our wonderful  SPONSORS

who have donated to our fundraiser.

Pick five words. Give those words to an Austin theatre critic. Let him/her spin it into a custom review for you emblazoned on a delightful, wearable badge. Hey, space in the paper is a hot commodity--you gotta take a good review when you can get it.

FEATURING: Michael Meigs & Elizabeth Cobbe

Local actors, frozen atop cubes. You pick a selected cold read from one of the many famous play excerpts on hand. You cast the scene from the available actors (or play one of the roles, yourself). Dress the actors and provide them with props. An intimate audience is allowed inside the tent for a singular, hilarious and unexpected reading.

FEATURING: Robert Deike, Shannon Grounds, Tyler Jones, Justin Scalise, Breanna Stogner, David Meissner, Rachel McGinnis and Travis Bedard

I mean, have you seen Will Hollis Snider’s photos? Good night, nurse. You don’t want to pass up the chance to don some crazy duds and have him snap your shot.

Glam-our-puss. That’s you.

Have you ever wanted to chuck something at an asshole? It might not be practical while driving 70 down 35, but now’s your chance (and the target’s immobile). We’ve hand-picked the best improv insulters in town to taunt you, so start practicing your aim now.

FEATURING: Daniel Sawtelle & Bobby DiPasquale of The Austin Roasters Club

Will you find a dollar in change in the passenger’s seat? Are you going to apply the funds to play Powerball? If so, what are the winning numbers, and how much do you have to claim on your income taxes? These are the pressing questions that we’ll answer for you. We can’t promise they’ll be the right answers, but there will be answers. And at the end, you’ll get a lovely little fortune to take away with you that’s sure to color your perception of the future. You’re welcome.

FEATURING: Beth Burns, Director and Palm Reader Extraordinaire

That’s right.  I didn’t stutter. And, no, the word “caricatures” does not contain an “h,” contrary to all English language speaking instincts. You will, indeed, get a caricature of you or a loved one drawn in the style of a comic book robot by one talented artist named Bonn Adame. I did not make up the spelling of that man’s name. Yes, he sounds like a super hero.  That’s why he draws comic book robots.

We’ve got physical feats (races) and mental (trivia). Join us in pairs for sack racing, 3-legged racing and tug-of-war. Or, if you’re the solo competitor type, try out our pizza eating competition or theatre trivia contests! Prizes for the winners! Nothing for the losers! Yay!

Two guys from Alaska play music steeped in traditional blues, as well as blending sounds of early R&B, hip-hop, funk, reggae and good old Southern style Rock-n-Roll. Their set is a combination of original songs that not only makes you sit up and listen, but will make you want to get up and dance.        We caught them playing at a UT tailgate last week, and, boy, do they ever get a crowd goin’?!

We’ve got a cozy little blanketed space we call Gameland. No making out allowed, but you can , as the name would indicate, play games there. If you’re skilled at them, you might even win prizes. And when was the last time you got a prize for making out?

*
*

It’s simple. They roam, and they’re sad. They will pay you in prizes if you can make them laugh, they are just that sad.

*
*

Cast your fishin’ line into the “pond” to see what bites. A different prize every time! Doesn’t even take any skill. Just tickets.

*
*

Are we done, yet? Geez. We’ve got tons of cool silent auction items. Mega gift certificates to popular local eateries, certs to gift shops and online vintage boutiques, massages, original artwork, cake balls, and more! We’ve also got some darned amazing raffle prizes, too. Need new headshots? A night on the town? Booze? Look no further.

*Booths and featured artists subject to change.

Are you hungry?  We hope so!  We’ve got BBQ from The Salt Lick, sausage from Pok-e-Jo’s, chicken satay from Austin Java, chips and queso, cupcakes, cobbler, and cookies!  We’ll also have beer from NXNW and cider (just add our complimentary Fireball Whisky)!

NAQ - Never asked questions (we’re heading them off at the pass...)

What is this?

This is an honest-to-goodness, Austin original, one-night-only carnival taking place at The Blue Theatre. We’re filling the space with games and wild activities, prizes, BBQ, beer, and a band. I mean, did you totally skip the above novel?  If it rains or is really freakin’ cold, we’ll be inside.  If the weather is a delight, we’ll be partying outdoors.

The clowns are making me nervous.  What can I expect?

This is a friendly event. We promise. In fact, it’s a great event to attend if you’ve got relatives in town and you’re totally out of reasonable and non-feud inducing conversations. Roll off the sofa, put away the turkey legs, and come have yourself a grand time.

Who are you people?

We’re Paper Moon Repertory and Cambiare Productions (aka David Meissner, Rachel McGinnis, Will Hollis Snider and Travis Bedard). We’re doing this as a fundraiser for our upcoming double feature at The Blue Theatre, which runs February 17th-March 4th. We’ll be producing two original plays: The 21 Would-Be Lives of Phineas Hamm and Messenger No. 4 or How to Survive a Greek Tragedy.  As you can see from our titles, we’re going to need an enormous budget for ink alone, so please come out, have a good time, and support works originated in Austin in the process.

I have rehearsal.

No, you don’t. It’s been cancelled. But if your director hates fun and theatre and has re-instituted rehearsal, run away at 10pm. We’ll have music, beer, and the grand raffle just for you from 10-11. We’re runnin’ the party late and hoping you’ll show, so I’m sure you won’t let us down. Seriously. Look at our clown photo. We will haunt you.

You sure are convincing. I’ll be there.

Well, we couldn’t be more excited!  Thanks for your support.  We love you in a non-creepy clown sort of way.
